Course Introduction

Disparities between Maori and Non - Maori continue to exist and remain an ongoing focus for Northland.  This course promotes a relationship centered care approach with Maori and their whanau. Only by building relationships with patients first, can we  truly re-design systems and services that will support the reduction of inequities.  This training course is being adopted across Northland and is being offered to PHO staff.

The course is delivered by Hone Hurihanganui from Hearts & Minds Ltd.  Hone has successfully delivered this course to 100% of Hawkes Bay DHB staff members and is currently working with a number of other DHBs across the country.

  • To encourage workers to develop culturally intelligent behaviours with their patients.

  • To lead others in cultural competence and model competent practice.
